Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation;
Member of Federal Parliament,
Government of Nepal
I am Dipak Khadka, the current Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation of Nepal and a member of the federal parliament. Born and raised in the vibrant landscape of Nepal, I originate from Sankhuwasabha District in the eastern part of the country. My career is deeply rooted in public service and the socio-economic advancement of Nepal.
Current Role and Vision
In my capacity as the Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, I hold the profound responsibility of overseeing and managing Nepal’s rich natural resources to promote sustainable growth and development. My role is multi-faceted, encompassing the creation and implementation of forward-thinking energy policies, efficient water resource management, and strategic irrigation development. These responsibilities are critical to achieving a vision for Nepal that not only meets the needs of today but also sets a solid foundation for future generations.
At the heart of my work is a commitment to fostering robust and sustainable infrastructure. This includes modernizing Nepal’s energy landscape through the expansion of renewable energy sources, enhancing water security through the careful management and conservation of water resources, and developing comprehensive irrigation systems to boost agricultural productivity and support rural communities. These initiatives aim to improve quality of life across the country, empowering communities with reliable energy, secure water sources, and agricultural resilience.
My approach to leadership in this sector is underscored by a dedication to both domestic welfare and international cooperation. By aligning our strategies with global best practices and fostering partnerships with international stakeholders, I am committed to positioning Nepal as a responsible, forward-looking player in the global energy and environmental landscape. Through sustainable energy and infrastructure projects, my goal is to establish Nepal as a model for resilient, eco-friendly growth, ensuring that our policies and actions not only serve our nation’s people but also contribute to global efforts in combating climate change and promoting sustainable development.
Political Career and Leadership
With over three decades of political experience, I have had the privilege of serving in various leadership roles within the Nepali Congress Party and representing Sankhuwasabha District as a federal parliamentarian. My journey includes pivotal roles, such as the district president of the Nepali Congress Party, and a subsequent promotion as an "Invited Central Committee Member," which underscore my commitment to the party’s ideals and Nepal’s national progress. I have been elected twice by the people of Sankhuwasabha, reflecting their trust in my dedication to serving their needs and aspirations.
In my previous role as State Minister of Water Supply, I was instrumental in implementing the Melamchi project, a critical water initiative that now supplies clean water to Kathmandu Valley. This achievement exemplifies my commitment to sustainable solutions and my dedication to addressing Nepal’s infrastructure challenges through strategic and impactful initiatives.
Academic and Professional Background
Academically, I hold a Master’s degree in Social Science with a specialization in Sociology and Anthropology, equipping me with a profound understanding of social dynamics, cultural heritage, and community needs. Alongside my political and public service career, I am an entrepreneur with investments in the energy, power, tourism, and hospitality sectors. This diverse professional background allows me to approach governance from both strategic and practical perspectives, ensuring a balanced approach to policy-making and economic development.
Commitment to Public Service and Diplomacy
My life’s work is driven by a commitment to public service, rooted in a vision for a resilient, prosperous Nepal that respects its cultural heritage while embracing modernization. By combining my entrepreneurial spirit with my responsibilities in government, I strive to address complex issues with innovative, sustainable solutions. My engagements with international counterparts and diplomatic organizations are shaped by a collaborative approach, aiming to foster partnerships that mutually benefit Nepal and the global community. I remain committed to building a future that ensures inclusivity, progress, and well-being for all Nepali citizens.
